Meet Dr. Kat Wong, PT, DPT, CFMT
Dr. Kat has been passionate about human movement since a young age playing both competitive basketball and cello. Injury related to both sport and performing arts struck her curiosity which drove her to pursue her B.S. in Kinesiology with an emphasis in Pre-Physical Therapy from Westmont College, Santa Barbara. She then earned her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Campbell University, North Carolina. While Kat was shadowing different physical therapists, she often saw the same treatments applied to all patients and noticed they weren’t helping people actually get better. She knew there had to be a different way of approaching the human body that wasn’t so cookie cutter. She discovered Functional Manual Therapy through the Institute of Physical Art while still in school and immediately started taking their courses to develop her hands and a systematic approach to patient care. During PT school, Kat also discovered her fascination with the viscera , pelvis, and all things pelvic health related as she herself experienced many years of unexplained period pain.
Kat started her career working at one of Inova’s outpatient orthopedic and sports medicine clinics in Fairfax, Virginia. At the end of 2020, Kat moved back to Southern California where she worked at IPA Physio OC treating clients dealing with chronic pain, extremity pain, back pain, headaches, EDS / HDS, athletic injuries, pelvic pain, and provided pregnancy and post partum support.
In August 2022, Kat passed her Certification in Functional Manual Therapy (CFMT) through the Institute of Physical Art (IPA) with Honors (>90% cumulative average). In addition to Functional Manual Therapy, Kat also has a background in Postural Restoration Institute, Craniosacral Therapy through the Upledger Institute, and visceral mobilization through the Barral Institute. She also specializes in pelvic health rehabilitation and has taken numerous coursework through the Herman & Wallace Institute. She combines her pelvic health knowledge with the Functional Manual Therapy approach to assess and treat her patients head to toe to address the driver of pelvic floor dysfunction.
Kat is passionate about human movement and its capacity for efficiency and optimal function. Her treatment philosophy involves a holistic approach encompassing lifestyle, mind-body connection, and nutrition to create an environment for the body to heal. She strives to work with her patients in a collaborative manner to help them meet their movement goals.
Kat is also a certified Endometriosis Coach through the Integrative Women’s Health Institute and offers telehealth coaching for those who suspect they have or have been officially diagnosed with endometriosis to provide support in figuring out next steps and create strategies to best manage symptoms.
